Toyota’s exciting prototype fuel cell electric Hilux pick up was announced to the world at the beginning of September. The ground-breaking hydrogen Hilux was revealed at Toyota’s Burnaston car plant in Derby, where Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK (TMUK) had been leading the project with its consortium partners, supported by UK government funding administered through the Advanced Propulsion Centre.
Sanoh UK has been working with Ricardo, Toyota’s development partner on the project, to supply brake pipe assemblies for the Hilux. While the basic design remained the same as the standard Hilux, a considerable amount or rerouting was required to accommodate the Hydrogen fuel tank system.
Angus McCubbin, Sales and Commercial Director for Sanoh and Nigel Dilling, EV Project Manager, were invited to view the new Hilux at the Millbrook Testing ground in Northamptonshire, soon after its launch. Nigel said, “Ricardo and Toyota have made rapid progress in the development of this exciting vehicle. We were very impressed with the Hydrogen Hilux and delighted to have been involved in the project. The team at Ricardo have been very professional to work with and we were very satisfied to learn how well our small part in the operation has been received by the team at Burnaston. We look forward with anticipation to the next phase of the project.”
