SUM works with a wide range of suppliers across the value chain. We rely on them to help us develop, produce and maintain our industry-leading products. As a result, we value our partnerships with them. To ensure high quality, fast logistics and cost efficiency, we have intensive, long-term relationships with several preferred suppliers. But we are always looking for new partners to help us keep up with technological and business developments in the automotive market.

We select and evaluate our suppliers according to five key criteria:

Quality

Suppliers must be able to provide high-quality components and systems to ensure the superb quality of our products. What’s more, they must be committed to continuous improvement in production processes with regard to quality and environmental impact.

Logistics

SUM manufactures its parts on a build-to-order basis, meaning that parts are only constructed after we have received a confirmed order. Suppliers must therefore be able to provide continuity, reliability and flexibility when it comes to delivery. This requires fast, frequent, error-free communication between our suppliers and ourselves.

Know-how

Suppliers must have up-to-date knowledge of technological developments in the market and provide access to new technologies and systems.

Competitive position

Suppliers must have a favourable financial and market position.

Value

Added In order to set competitive prices for our parts, value chain costs must be as low as possible. In the automotive industry we look for year on year cost downs and fixed prices for the whole of the vehicles lifecycle.

SUM Quality Requirements

SUM suppliers are graded and scored on their quality certification as well as their performance in relation to product quality and delivery issues. These requirements are an integral part of our supply chain. These include:

  • Agreeing to our Supplier Quality Manual

  • IATF16949 certificate

  • ISO90001 certificate

  • ISO14001 certificate

  • ISO45001 certificate

  • Supplier Audit Pass
